In typical ADHD style, I have worn myself into zombie-like exhaustion over the last two and a half months through heart and soul dedication to a project that had little or nothing to do with whatever it was I originally sat down to do.
Truly ADHD productivity at its finest: twelve hours a day, barely time to pee, sometimes forgetting to eat, moments of work-induced euphoria a given. The only inconvenience being a very slight lack of control over where that productivity was directed. But surely even productivity with a mind of its own is better than no productivity at all?
There, another epitaph to add to the list of possibilities I will be leaving my daughter to choose from, such as:
- No I haven’t forgotten, I’ll do it tomorrow.
- It’ll only take me two minutes, so I’ll do it tomorrow.
- I know I sat down in front of my computer six hours ago to do something specific but I immediately forgot about it, so I’ll do it tomorrow.
Anyway, the task that distracted me from whatever the other task was, was that of editing An English Fandango (Tales of a Modern-Day Nomad). And I was even sidetracked from that by the irresistable temptation to rewrite it practically in its entirety.
Which I did.
It is now available for Kindle, Kobo and in Epub format via BookFunnel, and from Friday 21st of August to Tuesday 25th of August inclusive, it will be free of charge!
Obviously there are no strings attached to those five free days – everybody it more than welcome to take advantage. But if you enjoy the book enough to feel it deserves a review, I would be both grateful and delighted.

There once was a girl who felt a bit lost. She had no idea in which direction she wanted to go; just that she did not fancy the direction most other people seemed to be going. She felt that something momentous had to happen before she would start to feel alive, but nothing momentous ever happened in the Northamptonshire (UK) countryside. Thankfully for her, there were still 20 years to go before the British public lost its collective mind: departure from the European Union still nothing more than an improbable fantasy in Nigel’s head. So when the girl was 18, she decided to go to Spain, where a summer trip “just to learn the language” was able to turn into an 8-year odyssey of discovery – as opposed to being called to a halt after 90 days as it would be in today’s sunlit Brexity uplands.
Hopefully funny in places, hopefully thought-provoking in others, and with more factual information on a wide variety of topics thrown in to keep readers on their toes, this is ultimately the story of a girl unable to tether herself to a conventional life.
